Associative word chains made up of orphaned words, the original context of which can be found in direct experience, predominantly form the impetus for Hong Mönch's (* 1980) acrylic works. These random, sometimes cryptic word chains serve as keys to the motifs, become search elements on the Internet, for the library's archiving machine or for one's own inner world. What remains are the painted pictures. Motifs arranged on black denim fabric that appear to float or appear as an excerpt from something larger and thus not only transform the darkness of the fabric into a frame brand, but also incorporate the universal background itself as an essential component. In the T.M.R. series (The Monet Research), in which enlarged excerpts from various Monet pictures are used as a template for Mönchs own painting, the time is added as paratext in the titles and is intended to chronologically classify the mood of the day evoked by the artist. A game between source and interpretation is inherent in all his works - fragmentation, compression, but also repetition and senseless orientation demand “interest” in front of or on an always black background.
The title of the current exhibition, Cartierul Senefeld, refers to the district in Offenbach where his studio is located and where many Romanian migrants live.
